The weekend has been a fast and slow weekend. Saturday was a quiet day of chores and reading. was very caught up in my book, and read two thirds of my book by bed time. it was a very quiet night, everyone has gone to bed early as we have to wake up at 6am the next day to make our way back to Bentong.
called JM, and spoke to him for a while. the conversation was very light and casual, and it was good. many thoughts bout us loomed into my head, and then i fell asleep.
Rise and shine ! at 5.44am ? what? my sissy is unbelievable, in the early morning, she assumes the role of a commando, and wakes EVERYONE with a loud " wake up lar !! " lazily, i dragged myself out of bed and into the showers.. the cold water did more than just wake me up, it got me shivering and goosebumps all over too ! we got ourselves into the car and left home at 6am. well, not that Bentong was that far away, but we have to get there by 8am, plus wanna redeem the Sausage McMuffin at the drive-thru McD. as bro drove off, i dozed off in the car, yeah as usual.
Reached Bentong a little past 7, gathered at this kopitiam, we all had a cuppa 'teh' while waiting for the rest to arrive. We are going to the cemetery for the pay respects to the ancestors. Urm.. not exactly Qing Ming, as that was way passed the date d. It's just a yearly ritual to gather all the family members, and i mean ALL who share the same surname. so you can imagine, it's a big group. Made our way up to the hill, Bentong Hill, as it is commonly known as. Lead by the older generation relatives, we paid respects and burned incense with food offerings. There were 2 spots that we needed to make a stop. One was a 'common' ground, it ain't exactly a grave, but more like a monument erected to 'jaga' the whole cemetery. ok i know all this sounds a bit off, but i can't think of a better way to describe it ! haha Then, we drove up to the higher grounds, where our 崔(Cuī)graves are. , unlike how we all view cemeteries, It wasnt a scary place to be at all. it was rather a happy event. there was firecrackers, the whole roasted pig, lotsa lotsa pau, and fruits. they even gave out angpau at the end.
We went for brunch at 11am, and then for early dinner at 3pm. yeah.. dinner at 3pm. there were lucky draws and presents for everyone.
the modern generation will sometimes find these events very old-fashioned, and crowded with old people.however, i think it is important how by attending events like this, we are aware of who's who in the family. be it a relative or some elderly figure in the 'clan'.
hmm.. did i say this becos i'm growing old myself? gosh !
thought of the day : must you bring your assignments to a dinner? gosh...
my alternative to spill my blabbers, giving some peace to the woman sitting beside me; my family members; the girl next door; the poor dog at the back of my house; the neighbour's irritating bird. they listen to me chatter away non-stop. and yes.. that's how much i talk
